How To Promote Your Website Through Newsgroups

Having your online business can be a very rewarding experience.  Not only will you have the entire world as your market, you would also have access to a variety of channels which you could use to promote your products or services.  Many of these channels are free.

Among these are newsgroups.  Newsgroups are also known as online communities or forums.  Usually, a newsgroup is dedicated to a particular subject of common interest for its members.  The forum is subdivided into sub-topics, which are called categories.  In each category, a member can post a query or share information relevant to the sub-topic, and other members can answer the question or react to the entry.  The query or entry forms what is called a thread, and the members’ answers or reactions are called replies.  This system is what promotes discussion, and often, camaraderie, among the members in a newsgroup.

But your concern as an enterprising fellow is how to capitalize on these newsgroups to boost your online business.  Most definitely, you’d have to create an account and join the discussions first.  But here are some ways by which you could use your account to promote your own business:

  • As a member, you will usually be allotted a signature box where you could place some lines of your choosing.  You could use this to display a link to your website, or to announce your latest product, or to advertise the services you’re offering.  Your signature box will appear in your every post.  Each thread is composed of at least one page.  Imagine if you have a thousand posts.  That’s at least a thousand pages displaying your business message!

  • Through your posts, you could also recommend the use of your products or services.  Do not do this too blatantly though, as the person moderating the newsgroup might consider your posts as spam.  Try to be helpful first to those who need some help.  Build relationships before making your move.

  • Some newsgroups have categories specifically reserved for advertisements.  You could use this opportunity to promote what you have to sell.

  • You could befriend fellow members and invite them personally to try your offerings.  It’s a good way of building relationships that would last.

  • You could brand yourself as an expert in the subject relevant to your business.  Answer all threads that contain questions appurtenant to your field.  Everyone who would get to read the said thread would then start to think highly of you, and you will have less problems in promoting your products or services to them.

  • Strategically insert your website’s links in your posts without being too blatant about it.  Include it as one of your suggestions, or as a part of a review.  The posts where your links would be located would be excellent back links that could generate more traffic for your website.  How?  Well, forums figure prominently in search engine results.  Thus, they tend to attract more traffic than usual websites.  The people they do manage to acquire would get to see your link, and this would result in a higher likelihood of garnering additional traffic for your web pages.

Clearly, there are many advantages in promoting your products or services in newsgroups.  Online communities would give you a brand new audience for what you have to offer, and it is quite a conducive place for building long-term friendships and a faithful clientele.

Internet marketing is a game of exposure.  A new venue where you could have your products or services exposed would only do wonders for your business.  Grab this chance as soon as you can.  It’s effective and it’s free.  Rarely would you have a better deal than that.
